Spash Guard (?) Removal

Hi guys,

Just been doing some preventative measures type jobs on the lude. Mainly removing corrosion and slapping copper grease on all contacting/moving parts in the brake callipers.

I've noticed the splash guard (disc behind the brake disc) is very badly corroded on the passenger side, soo much so it's distorted and rubbing on the brake disc. Checked the drivers side and it's not there at all so can't be too much of an issue just removing it but can't find any guides online.

Has anyone done this before and if they have how's it done?

Copper grease is abrasive. You should have used silicone grease or Lith moly grease.

Was always told to use copper grease by my dad due to the temperatures involved

Copper grease is fine for sliders etc.

That brake dust shield is held on by 2 or 3 Philips head bolts it is connected at the back of the hub, dam near impossible to get of because of rust, long nose vice grips may get it off for you,

Just bend the shield back to stop it rubbing its that simple.

Here you go, to stand any chance you will have to remove the disc, there's 3 of these bad boys.

Defo advise silicon grease for sliders, copper grease is ok for pad contact points, defo try the Philips screws with the disc off. But to get any decent torque on them the hub will have to be split.

All sorted.....kind of.

I tried to bend it back and most of the bottom half just came away in my hand
