Custom H22 Rocker covers

Post by RattyMcClelland » Sat Mar 17, 2012 6:29 pm

I did my 1st rocker cover respray today.
Turned out well.

I have 2 more to respray for people.

I will do as JDMBB4 did on PUK. Only difference is i wont do wrinkle finishes. Instead i will respray "ANY" colour you wish and lacquer it.

The covers are £100 and I will send you your custom rocker cover.
You fit the rocker cover to your car.
Post your old cover back to me.
I refund you £30 upon receipt of your old cover.

So in total the cost is £70 including postage.

I have my own Chipsaway business so i can properly respray with guns an absolutely any car colour
possible.

Here are the tones to make the colours.

And all car manufactures colour swatches

IF YOU WANT A 3 STAGE PEARL AS SHOWN BELOW IT WILL BE AN EXTRA £10 AS THE CLEAR ADJUSTER BASE FOR PEARLS IS EXPENSIVE.

So heres mine.

I bought it shotblasted so i sanded it back with 400 to key it up and degreased ready for etch primer.

ImageImage

Bilt Hamber Echweld etch primer used 1st to stick to the cover and backed off for 10mins at 60degrees with infra red lamps.
Image

Then used 2 coats of 1k base primer backed off for 10mins and sanded back with 1500 on the flat surfaces. Not really necesary TBH. Then degreased/takked ready for paint.
Image

Honda NH603p White diamond Pearl as on my Type S mixed up. Its a waterbased paint that dries with a heatgun and goes hard when backed.
Image

5 coats of Base coat and baked off for 10mins and takked
Image

3 coats of main layer pearl coat baked and takked.
Image

2pac lacquer unique to chipsaway. Gave it 2 coats and baked off for 45mins at 60degree. Unmasked and rubbed back DOHC VTEC. Needs further rubbing and polishing but you get the idea.

Image

Next time i wont mask up the cover bolt holes but just mask up the spark plug covers holes, oil cap and vaccums hoses.

Takes around 5 hours to do for pearls. I will Nitromors the old rocker paint off. So who wants what colour?

Great service there Ratty. If you weren't wanting to bother masking the cover bolt holes each time (I imagine it is rather time consuming ;-) ) You could do as I do and use 1 penny pieces...

Image

They're the perfect size to cover up the majority of the hole, but leave enough exposed so that the washer will cover the edge of the paint. When the paint's dry, you just give them a swift tap from beneath...

My daily's cover as well...

I'm liking the idea of a colour coded cover, but, as my original is immaculate, I'm not willing to repaint it ;)

What's the current going rate for a mechanically sound (right term?) 2nd hand cover ?
