Post by si import » Mon Oct 15, 2012 3:53 pm

plans are to turbo my lude. looking for about 400bhp. has anyone had any experience with th mahle gold series pistons . would these be up to the job . i already have all the parts needed so its just a case of deciding weather to have the block sleeved and fit forged pistons or use mahle gold series. all suggestions would be great. cheers Jon

I spoke to PAW about this before, mahle gold 9:1's can get you into those sort of figures with a good build. Don't know what boost you'll be running or how long the motor will last mind
PAW rebuilt 98 prelude 228bhp & 171lb/ft R.I.P.
PAW rebuilt 01 ATR 238bhp & 164lb/ft sold

Don't go for number, go for a reliable build with lots of torque. Have a look at Simon's Turbo build. 8-)
I like the noise of Turbos.

i want it to last as long as possible and b as reliable as possible so if having it means having the block sleeved then thats the way ill go. yeah the sound of them is awesome. the first lude i owned was turbod running 380bhp . ill find the dyno graph for it . sadly that got smashed up by a man in a landrover discovery falling asleep. cheers ill have a read through a few of the builds. cheers Jon

I guess you already know what it'll be like since you've had one before. But personally if I was going to spend that kind of money, I'd do it on something RWD or 4WD.

yeah putting the power to the floor was near on impossible . but once you got going it was stupidly fast. reason i am wanting to go boost is i already have all the turbo kit , ecu and fuel system . i already have an evo 5 and sapp cossie but wanted something abit different and loved the sound of the old turbo lude . cheers Jon

Ahh makes perfect sense :)

I've run Mahle's in my engine for a few years now. They're great if you build them right with perfect P2W clearance. Compression is still pretty much like new and oil consumption is low. They should last a very long time with a sensible tune and decent fuel.
