Yet another topic about exhausts...

Post by Donald » Wed Aug 29, 2012 7:13 pm

Okay guys, an easy topic to earn some rep in!

Another set of questions to--hurr hurrrrr hurrr--exhaust your patience.

So, 4G and 5G are interchangeable from the cat back, and it doesn't matter whether it's JDM or UKDM?
TypeS is different.
H22A8 is different.

My next question(s) are:

What are the A5 and A8 system differences?
If I was to replace my knackered A8 system with an A5 system, would I be downgrading (for want of a better word) at all?
Is the TypeS system any different other than being longer/shorter in places to avoid ATTS stuff?
If I was to procure a TypeS system, would this be more beneficial to the H22A8 than an A5 system (or A8 even)?

I know some of these questions may have inconclusive answers, but some wizard out there must know a little bit more than myself.

Maybe I can edit in how they're different when a definitive answer is posted, I'm sure it would be useful for the Wiki?

Please no answers about TypeS being better 'just because'...... Nitin. :poke: :-P
And yes I said system a lot.

Thanks :)

Type-S exhaust is a tiny bit bigger (inner diameter wise) then the A5/A8. I think.

When I rip it out from my S, you can have it and see if it fits.

Exhaust stuff:

By lowering the intake resistance and making an engine that burns efficiently, Honda needed to finish its tuning job by allowing for the exhaust to get out smoothly. The exhaust manifold, while retaining its outer diameter, had its opening size increased. The dual-pipe design to follow was made truly cylindrical, (as opposed to oval) and the wall lining was made to 15mm -- decreasing exhaust interference. The catalytic converter was also increased in size, and the exhaust piping increased from 50.8mm to 57mm. The silencer efficiency was increased from 97 liters/second to 113 liters/second. This completes the improvements made on the air flow efficiency of the Prelude Type S.

UK 4G to 97-98 UK 5G probably.

With the a5 & a8 the only thing they share are the back box. Different downpipes, CATs, midsection. They are however both 2.0".

The Type-S has a cylindrical manifold, longer downpipe, and 2.25" exhaust.

If you want to swap from the a8 exhaust you need to swap the entire thing from engine back.

I have   Just need to make sure it fits my Type-S chassis as that's from a 4G. Hopefully it fits with a bigger (or shorter) de-cat. :geek:

Nitin you will need to hack away at the crossmember to fit it. The collector is longer on the S.
