Overheat

Hi guys I was driving home suddenly my heat rose to red an coolent was leaking out the rad so put a spare red I had in let it warm up plenty coolant in it an took for test drive an still temperature rising aa I drive checked rad plenty of coolant in it so any suggestions please

Check the thermostat for normal operation.

That's what I was thinking but the rad I put in is quite old so maybe not doing its job properly x

If it's not the thermostat what else could it be to make it suddenly overheat maybe split the rad

Could be needing bleed properly.

If it has already gone into the red it might be a good idea to look for aftermath damage, i.e. head gasket. This can be checked with a leak test using a dye for contamination in the coolant. If it has run too low on coolant for too long that is, causing over heating.

I have to put a new rad in an see how that performs if it stays cool all well an good if temp starts to go high again it maybe a dead dog

Nothing I can think of, overpressure would likely be head gasket but that would push the fluid through into the reservoirs system.

Also check the rad cap.
