3 inch exhaust with a hytech 2.5 inch twin loop muffler?
Post by Therealjj91 » Fri Jun 12, 2015 8:08 pm
What I would like to know is I want to upgrade my exhaust, I have a fujitsubo manifold which will have a 3 inch collector mod attached to 3 inch piping with a 3 inch decat. Now would the 2.5 inch hytech twin loop cause a bad restriction? I know they're meant to be high flow but would going down to 2.5 cause a negative effect on performance?

Yes it's restricts the corrosion properties of galvanised steel so your arches will rot.
However on my Mugen twin loop back box which was 2.25" I had that pipe cut off and modified to a 2.5" pipe to it all flow matches.
Win.

Ignore that bit, it has nothing to do with anything - it's just Ratty trying to be funny...Therealjj91 wrote:and sorry what do you mean about my arches rotting?

So does anyone know if it's a good or bad idea? Thanks.

physics says it will cause a restriction quite how noticeable it will be is something no one can tell you you will probably need a dyno to tell the difference if there is one

Actually it might be a good thing, warm gasses from the engine travel faster than cooler gasses so to speed up the flow a slight restriction toward the rear of the exhaust is a good thing. I have a reducer on the 3" system on my accord just before it splits in to the twin back boxes for this very reason.
