Exhaust manifold cover ?

Post by jiblet » Wed Nov 26, 2014 7:48 pm

Hi everyone I've brought my second prelude this week and it's got a custom stainless steel exhaust that's ceramic coated and heat tape wrapped .
What's the benefit of this ?
My bonnet gets red hot and I'm worried it's gonna burn the paint, do you think it's worth putting a exhaust manifold cover on .
Thanks guys

If the manifold is ceramic coated and heat wrapped, it shouldn't need a heat shield.
 but then if it's ceramic coated, it wouldn't normally be heat wrapped - it's one or the other - so that's a bit confusing...

Are you sure it was ceramic coated?
Is the heat wrap in one piece and does it cover all of the manifold? (can't see clearly in that picture).

Also were abouts does the bonnet get hot first? Is it right above the manifold?

kind of looks like a standard manifold the primaries bulge at the bottom flange your bonnet shouldn't be getting that hot my manifold is nearer to the bonnet than yours due to design and my carbon bonnet only got warm without wrapping and now just luke warm with the wrapping

I'm only going on what previous owner has told me wurly. I'm new to these performance parts and didn't even know you could ceramic coat stainless steel . It's definitely custom from back box to manifold. Maybe manifolds standard and polished ? Sounds awesome thou ! Bit weird having every person in the street look at me though. Must be loud outside car . I'm hoping putting a cat on quiet her down a bit .
Bonnets got insulation on it by the way .

Yeah sorry, wasn't criticising I guessed you were going on what you'd been told by the previous owner - that's who I was questioning :D

Bonnet insulation was another question I had, so that's good to have knocked that one off the list.

 is it maybe an ATR manifold?

Can you get us a better (closer up) picture of the manifold? We should be able to help a bit better then.

Ok will do tomorrow, I know the back box has got a name on it but forgot what it is . I spouse the plate that bolts to the head and the plate that bolts to the down pipe will help identity it best ?

BTW, your lude is shaping up to have some tasty bits...
ES engine mount inserts, I can see an AEM v2 intake, sexy Tanabe front strut brace, you say it also has some kind of branded exhaust (thinking possibly skunk, if it's loud and has a plate on it..? but we'll have to wait and see! )

Cheers wurly I need to get a decent pic of the underneath coz the roll bars and springs and strut braces are powdercoated red and the body looks brand new ,I'm pleased as I brought the car off eBay without looking at it.
