F22B block with H22a head?!

Post by DaveyBa8 » Mon Jul 14, 2014 9:23 pm

Ok so I have a H22a all ready in the prelude, but I swapped out an F22b which never used a drop of oil,

I'm getting a head from an accord type r next week. So I was thinking of mounting the 2 together?? Anyone have any advise on this? Will it be a straight match apart from the oil feed?

A vey quick run down.

The f22 has a 1mm smaller bore, some say it causes hot spots on the head and isnt ideal. A f23 would be better.

Also I think it will drop the compression massively, ideal for a cheap turbo build, not so much for n/a. You could get round this by going with different pistons, it'll probably be custom though.

What I would so is use the f22 crank and rods I n a h22/23 block and use standard h22 pistons.

Cheers lads, is this the same for the F22b JDM block, that's what mine is, all I could get on the American forums was f22b2s or a?

Not much info on the JDM F22b DOHC.

So I'm thinking on boring the cylinders out to 87mm and getting bigger H22a high comp pistons,

Will there be an issues fitting to the existing rods? On the F22b?

You will drastically reduce the strength of the cylinders as 1mm is a hell of a lot of meat to strip off.

Mmmmm I must do abit of research, so the H22a is 87mm? And the F22b is 85mm?

Maybe there's not much I can do with this engine?

Just the fact I'm getting the ATR head I'd like to build something special. More of a project really.

Get a cheap h22 with a 50mm crank amd go nuts. You can get some scary high comp ratios with the h23/f22 crank usinh j22 pistons. Have a good read up about it mate especially on handa tech.

Cheers phil,

Looks like .25mm is the max you should hone not (bore) out of these engines,

So a cheap h22a, with F22b crank and rods? With h22a pistons or after market pistons would be ideal?

I'll do abit of Reaserch tomorrow night.
