..was it the fuel pump wire or a new coil which fixed it?

Fuel pump wire. I will replace the coil when it arrives.

The same problem came back again. After the wire was replaced it starts perfectly fine in 90% of the times. However, sometimes I have to make 10-20 attempts before it starts. After the car starts there is a strong smell of fuel. Could it be fuel pump? I've replaced my fuel pump 2 weeks ago, but the one I've installed was used as well. I bought it from eBay. Yesterday I've replaced the coil. Didn't help.
The funniest thing is that car drives perfectly fine.

Any ideas?

mercutio mentioned the ingition switch. It spins the starter motor, so I guess it does the job.
Battery? And again, in 90% of the times the car starts alright. If the battery would be dead I would struggle every time I start the car.

the ignition switch will spin the starter but when you release the key the engine dies this is the problem the ignition switch causes

I'm not releasing the key for at least 5 seconds, but normally nothing is happening.

Using a relay I hope? Else you'll be murdering the ign switch and potentially getting a lack of power to the pump. Check with a multimeter the voltage across the battery, then from the positive to body, then fuel pump feed to body. Your looking for the same reading each time, although it will drop a little the further from the battery you are. This will then rule out wiring if you like. You can also go from the fuel pump feed to fuel pump earth to ensure a good earth.

Edited and added info to previous post :-) You need a relay as the fuel pump uses alot of current, and the ign switch isnt designed to flow that much! Try this and update :) I would also fit a relay before replacing anything!
