Yeah, its mental how close to the firewall that block is.

But going back to road cars, if you've got the money and time and want to do something though then why not? If you're going to be happy with the end result then it's going to be worth it on a personal level. For example, when I blew the engine on my Accord, realistically I should've scrapped it as the car wasn't worth enough to warrant saving. Instead I bought a H22A and I'm slowly installing it in my spare time. Sensible? No. Enjoyable for me? Yes

Like i said all for trying something new etc. just so you can say you have done it.
But dont do it with unreasonable ideas of what your going to get out of it.

Apparently, a big benefit is that the engine runs so much cooler with the exhaust on the firewall side. Oil / water temps well down on std. Makes sense really, the intake side is directly fed from the front and all the heat is drawn away from the block and not over/around through it from the exhaust manifold.

^^
Good shout! This is why I'm whacking a cross flow head on my Golf - the stock exhaust manifold is behind the block to start with, so you can actually make some decent gains by putting either twin or bike carbs on the front to take advantage of the direct source of cool air
