Maybe that's a sign of doing a proper job: your hands are dirty and your arse cleavage is showing.
Many thanks for the videos.
If I can get an engine or a donor car for the right price I think I'll do it.
I agree it does sound more sewing machine and top end but noises can be deceptive. I would expect bottom end, rod bearing for example to be deeper but that would be more inline with the diesel flush possibly dislodging something and causing a problem with the oil pump perhaps...
Have you had your cam cover off yet and checked your valve clearances yet? Obviously whilst you are at it you could inspect the cam belt make sure nothing has jumped. Start with the easy stuff and fingers crossed.
At first I thought it was top end as well. It was reasonably quiet before so while I would be happy if it was just valve clearances but it has to be fairly drastic to go to that level of noise. The phone probably doesn't capture the sound properly, it's a lot more like a hammer noise in real life.
I saw this video which changed my mind, it sounds the same as this:

I will at some point take the cam cover and the sump off, but I reckon it's knackered, so I'm in no rush.
Can i ask, does it missfire?? I mean, if you bent a rod or shot a valve for example then it would missfire. It sounds like its running ok but just with the noise. I have to agree that this sounds like a spun bearing to me
One life, LIVE IT! Get VTEC, LOVE it. Drive a Honda and ENJOY it.

I checked the oil and it was black, looked in the filler cap and it was sludgy.
That's why engine flush. And that's a fair enough reason IMO. You can't rescue an engine that's already sludged up by just changing the oil every 5k.
Like I said though, I'm not sure diesel rather than flush was the way to go, but what's done is done.
I've used diesel successfully in the past but I won't flush again. I'll be more careful choosing cars in future, and if I end up with a sludgy one I'll just double the oil change frequency and live with it.
