I used to use M99, found it to be ok but I've made the switch to V pow now as that's what it's tuned on. Thankfully I have a v-power garage a couple moiles from where I work on one of my routes home. If I'm on a run and can't get v-power I'll do a splash and go of whatever premium fuel I can find, aslong as it's not esso, to get me to a shell garage

If you automatically reach for the value vodka or gin rather than the Smirnoff or Gordons then you are best off buying cheap shitty fuel for your car as you will never understand the difference between a quality product and a cheap shitty one made to cater to the lowest common denominator.

Wouldn't even spit on Gordon's tbh. Bombay Saphire all the way (and Smirnoff Blue or Black, not red)

I geeked myself and did a calculation on the cost vs. mpg of shell v power vs. shell fuelsave over a few tanks of each. They were very similar in my civic, and the cost didn't justify the similar mileage if ALL you're after is the lowest price per mile.

Fuelsave is really very good fuel. My civic has a lean-burn engine, where at cruise and low loads the engine switches to very low fuel to air ratios to get better mpg. With shell fuelsave, I can feel the car goes into lean-burn a lot more often, and it stays in lean-burn up hills where with other fuels I feel the power die off and the engine switches back to normal mode.

It probably works out better cost per mile to run M99 than V aswell tbh when it's 8pence per L cheaper.

My nearest Tesco with M99 - 300 yards up the road
My nearest shell with V-Power - 5 miles away, and is not in a direction I ever go past.

So a 10 mile round trip to get V-Power will add £1.50-£2 to the cost of filling up, add to that the extra cost of V-Power and it just doesn't make financial sense. If Shell was within a couple of miles and easy to get to then yes I'd be filling up there, but it's not, so I don't

@judderod: I totally agree. If you have a normal car with anormal engine shell fuel save is the fuel of choice for mpg/performance.

If you have an even partly sporty engined car you can and will benefit from Shell Vpower.

Basically shell is best quality there is give or take. Esso and bp being lower on the list by quite a long way.

@bennyboy: do you think anyone is still alive who remembers that price per liter??



The biggest indicator of a fuels ability to power my type S is how easily it pinks going up hills imho. Vpower never pinks no matter what revs and gear i use. Even BP ultibollox pinks like crazy. Also the immediate way in which the engine responds. Any other fuel and there is a lag.

@gayno: seriously though, I reckon over 5 tanks you would see the same milage regardless of extra travel. I have converted a few people to quality fuels and a couple are the type to keep records. They both show positive average over any of the other fuels.
