Fitting a decat pipe

Post by macky_6 » Mon Oct 01, 2012 11:38 am

Hey all,

Wanting to re-fit the decat pipe that came with my car as i have recently passed my MOT.

Is there anything more to it than unbolting the cat and bolting on the de-cat?

Any advice welcome :D

Does the "S" have a CAT temp warning light? If so you will probably need to earth it off to stop the warning light from coming on the dash.

Are you getting a custom decat made up?

getting the cat undone is not as easy as you might think - the bolts that Honda use to fit them tend to rust and round off making them nearly impossible to remove - when i did mine i had to cut the cat out at the downpipe side which was ok as i was replacing the downpipe at the same time. If i was doing it again i would take it to a garage which has oxy and let them undo it ;)

sorry just reread your post - seems like the cat had been on and off b4

Yeah forgot about that. Every CAT I have taken off a Lude has needed the angle grinder for the bolts.

Yes, if it has been on more than a few years, it's easier to drop the whole exhaust and do the removing (typically with an angle grinder) and fitting off the car, then re hang it all afterwards.

I found that the gaskets had degraded, so had to use some paste to prevent it blowing.
I bought some brand new bolts for it. :P

Tip: Put some copper grease on the bolt threads so that it's easier to remove next time. ;)

Thanks all :D

The decat has already been on the car, it was just that it was swapped off for the MOT ;)
