clutch line size, help/advice

Post by gb-lude » Tue Sep 11, 2012 10:43 am

Hi guys!

I have a custom clutch line made by a brake specialist a about a year ago.
Its a braided line and very solid fittings but the top coating of the braided line is starting to "melt" at places it touches something! (knowing the car has nog run yet so no heat was present)
Another guy who had this line said it set his car on fire..'

This is why i decided to scrap the custom line and make my own with AN fittings and braided lines.

Now the Question..

Will it be ok to use AN4 instead of the AN 3 which is the closest to the origional line size?
I'm thinking bigger line is more fluid so less pedal travel to disengage the clutch..
Am i right?

these are the fittings I will use:

AN-4 12.5mm Eye Banjo Adapter in Black
M12 x 1.0mm Aluminium Single Banjo Bolt in Black (master cylinder)
2x AN-4 STRAIGHT(or mayba one 30 degree ) FastFlow Stealth Black Hose Fitting
AN-4 to M10x1.0 Metric Adapter Black (slave cylinder)
and a AN-4 braided hose..

Will this work?
I can do the same with AN-3 ofcource..
:)

thanx

Nope, just means you need more fluid.

The ratio of travel between the pedal and clutch is determined by the size of the master and slave cylinders, so even if you used 20mm diameter pipe, it would still be the same travel.

Twist on hose fittings rant generally made for presurised systems like brakes and clutch. Worth checking out the manufacturer specs for pressure before using them.
