When the O2 sensor went on my Accord it died every time I stopped or dipped the clutch. I wonder if the black smoke could be overfuelling?

The scooby noise does sound like timing gone out though, my Golf was burbling away when the cam was slightly out from the crank.

Gutted mate, that's not news anyone wants!

I'd be tempted to say it's not the exahsut tho. Mine was on the rollers with a cracked manifold on all 4 primary connections and still made 217bhp and I didn't encounter any stalling issues either plus we're on almost exactly the same setup.

stinks of fuel, pops and bangs now

sounds like chevy v8 lol

thinking its fuel related issue, I just got this feeling about the tesco fuel

when I pulled in I think a few pumps were closed, but tesco 99 was open

02 sensor was replaced quite recently by honda oem part

I've used Tesco's 97 Octane fuel for years with no issues ever.

I had very simular sypmtons once when my valve clearances had been adjusted, but then hadn't been tightened up again properly, so a couple of them had slackened off. I obviously lost shed loads of power (Could only creep up hills at 40mph max with WOT) and there was obviously a slight smell of fuel in the air.

Have yours been touched at all recently?

just had a tune, valve clearance was done 900 miles after build again

but was fine after

to be fair did give the car some, it was 4am I had too, but nothing out the ordinary

was cruising on a303 at time

maybe problem never showed itself, hadnt been on long drive or motorway for a long while

fuel filter hasnt been changed in my ownership, maybe this?

I was thinking the worst, but might not be so bad

not giving up on the lude yet

timing belt jumped a tooth? Someone else mentioned valve clearances, so check these out and the tdc marks while you are at it.
