The ECT (Engine coolant temp sensor)? Thats far easier, get the car started and up to temp, then use the scan tool to measure the temp, it should be between 80-93c, if thats indicated you have an intermittent failure and the system is ok, if not check the cooling system and thermostat, if they are ok replace the ECT.

Again its a thermistor so unless you have a scan tool you need to measure with a multimeter, the scale is in the manual, go to section 11-65.

Did i help this time?

if that doesnt fix it i have a spare 5th gen fuel rail with injectors - its all cleaned up and looks good imo- it wouldnt be a problem to send that down to you and you can swap the part out and see if that helps - i dont have 5th gen so dont really know why i have this

I'm very dubious that this would be the coolant temp sensor.
That sensor doesn't come into play until the engine is started (ignition timing is fixed during cranking) - see page 23-102 of (4g) manual

My experience of the noticeable impact the coolant temp sensor has, is to allow the ECU to correctly manage idle as the engine warms up - faulty temp sensor causes the idle to rise/race as the engine warms up. This happens until the lambda sensor is up to temp and that then takes over (after a blip of the throttle, IIRC).

If in doubt, unplug the sensor - it will revert to default value that should allow the engine to work whatever the temp
