Faulty distributor like what happened with BennyBoy?

Obviously a very old post now, but in regards to the comment above about a faulty distributor, I can shed some more light on this that might be interesting. I'm currently chasing a misfire fault on my car and I took a look at the old distributor that I removed from the broken engine and all the internal wiring insulation was cracked and falling off, so maybe that is what bent the con rod.
