Ignition problems

Post by Wisewizzy1 » Mon Jun 19, 2017 8:05 pm

Hi guys I have a 97 H22a5 prelude various problems the main one being the annoying tapping I get constantly.. I've had it stripped down and the only thing we can find is the balance shaft has abit of play in it..

Anyway the thing I need help with is my car was running yesterday... today I've had the vtec solenoid taken off and cleaned and put back at the same time I had an aftermarket induction kit fitted but when my mechanic went to start it back up it wouldn't start..

We have took the spark plug leads off and thers no spark at all.. My mechanic reckons its the distributor but is there anything else it could be?

Like I said it was running yesterday.. I'm just lost now

Any help would be much appreciated

Try the Earth wires under the vtec solenoid first.

Check to see if your getting 12vs to the distributor. If so then proceed to looking at the distributor, check the rotor arm and points inside the cap, if all is good proceed to the coil. Check for spark coming of the coil when being turned over to your tester probe. If no spark is coming from the coil then test your igniter with a tester prob on a terminal on the coil, see if the light flickers on and off as it acts as a switch. If it's switching replace the coil.

Coils are 20/30 euro new, this is the most common part to fail. I've 4 failed coils here from different hondas.
