Hi there bud, newkid wrote:Anyone any experience on the 5th Gen auto boxes. Bought a 2.2 vtec last night as it was to cheap to turn down. Knew it had a box problem hence price. Goes into first and second no problems just the rest it's having none off. If it's new gearbox time be another going scrap heaven.
Cheers
I'd definetly change the fluid first - the Genuine Honda one. I bought Prelude with a smiliar issues (missing gears, aggressive gear changes etc...) and once I replace the fluid, after 40-60 miles all the issues went away. I sold the car letting the seller know what had happened and just the other day he text me saying he had done over 1k miles and gearbox is running perfect.
So I'd strongly recommened that before scrapping the car mate.
Cheers

Bit of an update. Removed all 6. Yes 6 solenoids and tested them. All have a string click. Problems now are it seems to be slipping as the revs fly up but no actual forward momentum. Also bangs when it selects first to the point it shudders the whole car.
Not sure exactly what to do next.

I have a honda horizon which has an auto box (admittedly Aisin not a Honda unit) that slips. The oil was dark when I dropped it out:

Prognosis from my Grandad, an auto gearbox mechanic, was that the discolouration was probably a result of the clutch packs overheating - once they're damaged, they're damaged and the box would need a rebuild.
Hope yours hasn't suffered the same fate matey

With all the problems on this box, I keep thinking surely there must be someone somewhere that knows what the definitive problem is with them and how to fix it?

yeah could possibly be the clutch packs the auto box unlike other autoboxes from different manufacturers doesnt have a servicable filter which would stop a lot of the issues this box has
