Engine over cooling after air con removal.

dont write it off as headgasket just yet - i had a a small coolant leak that i couldnt trace so presumed the worst but turned out to be a split in one of the coolant pipes that goes to the oilcooler - was only apparaent under load and the coolant was dropping onto the exhaust downpipe and evaporating so no tell tale signs of coolant under the car. Just thought it would be worth mentioning

or a leak from I pinhole in the rad that will only show when the system is pressurised I have seen this

No water in oil, or oil in water, just water loss!! I will have to get under her and take a look at those hoses vanzep mentioned, or maybe heater matrix?

Come to think of it, i have used my heater quite a bit this week, in early mornings, and my water loss has been quite a bit more than previous weeks. Could this be significant?

You can normally smell if the heater matrix is leaking. The car will smell 'sweet' and commonly, you will get condensation on the inside of the side and rear windows when the heater is on (after a while of it running) like that.

You could always temporarily bypass the heater matrix if your not too sure, by re-routing the pipes that feed it, I did this a while ago to diagnose a faulty matrix on a civic.
