i normally just buy a can or two of cheap carb cleaner and blast it in there on the oily bits- no need to rinse :)

Thanks for all the replies :)

I've got some cheap carb cleaner in the shed so i might give that a go first then and see how i get on. if not, sounds like a trip to poundland is in order lol.
