Alternator

Post by zombie tickler » Tue Apr 02, 2013 12:36 am

Guys as some of you know i think my alternator is knackered i have a few simple questions...

My car is a 98 2.2vti tiptronic (or whatever its called)

1. What models use the same as mine (do i have more options than just the gen 5) etc

2. best place to look? ebay? and what am i looking to spend?

3. what is a reasonable price to pay for fitting?

IM pretty sure i read on here that the 4th and 5th,s are different in terms of the connector plugs. Maybe someone else could clarify that. You could probly get a second hand one for maybe £30-50. New from a factors on an exchange basis probly around 90-120. As for fitting usualy 30-60mins labour or try your self. Its pretty simple and accessible. :)

A local Auto-Electrician can usually refurb an alternator for less than the cost of a used one.. just a thought.
