De-cat on standard exhaust

i disagree, i put a decat on my 2.oi 4th gen and it made the car more responsive and smoother acceleration.

I suppose it would depend whether or not the car is in good condition, if it's collapsed inside I could understand why a decat would improve response etc.

Surely a de-cat will always improve response over a catted exhaust (whatever the condition of the cat) as there's so much less restriction..? I de-catted my 2.2 and it made a good difference, I don't see why it won't make a difference on a 2.0 - but then, I'm probably wrong!!

If its just to get a louder exhaust note and maybe +/- 1 bhp then might be better fitting an induction kit and keeping the exhaust as standard

I would say yes do it.
Its like most other small bolt on mods, it might not make a massive difference on a dyno, but can still massively change the characteristics of the way the car drives.
For instance, Vauxhall's C20XE with a de-cat is like night and day compared to having a cat fitted. They rev alot free'er and the engine dosn't feel suffocated. You can easily feel the difference straight away.
