Ha ha well this is an amusing read of a topic if I've ever seen one. Good luck on the mods chap. These guys are defo the people to talk to as they have been there and done it (some still are there doing it  ) me, well I have a dedicated track 4th gen. Just put a type S TB on it and going for a better exhaust manifold then a remap. Not one for drag racing myself. The track is where I can have the most fun 8-) and get the most out of my car. As Merlin says, big HP will req a big wallet. So good luck pal. :D :D

Hey im a subaru fan and consider them as ome of the greatest cars ever made.

Anyway guys looking at exhausts and manifolds and looking at andy autosport vids i dont get why make £350-£450 manifolds and cat backs when they dont do nothing. Well thats what tuners are telling me. So whats the difference between buying an ebay header and a dc sports or greddy manifolds when they dont really do nothing? Plus custom made ones are shaped the same way as them have the same diameter as them so why do you gain power from custom made? I mean ill save around 400 if i buy a dc sports manifold with a megan racing cat back and a tune and surely i should achieve something? Someone on here told me to buy a tri y and tuners are telling me that they are jobby aswell lol

Yea genuine parts, sometimes cheaper than the public RRP. The manifold I'm using is a eBay jobbie top half and am getting a custom down pipe made with the matched collector for my system. And no, try y are great manifolds imo. Just too much cash for a budget build for me. 8-)

The tri-Y's out there have proven gains. The Hytech tri-Y is one of the best out there. The ebay special stainless steel manifolds along with the DC Sport don't give any real gains over the OEM manifold as the primaries and collector aren't really any larger than OEM, and thus as restrictive. Go custom and you an specify larger primaries and collector to best suit your mods.

With regards to the catback, again it's mainly about the diameter and which best suits the mods you have. They're all going to cost at least £300 due to the materials, bending and welding required. You an pay twice that for better materials, mandrel bends, tidier welds and a better backbox, but the performance is still largely determined by the pipe diameter... They're still the same length and shape. Mandrel bends and a better less restrictive backbox will help the gases flow better though. So again, go custom and you can specify the above to best suit your car. The likes of Megan Racing, JapSpeed etc are at the lower end of the off the shelf branded catbacks.

How much for a cheap manifold? Not spending on engine mods as i need to do other things with the car first such as driveshaft issues alternator and rust and a hole in the oem manifold and brakes so i just want a cheap replacement
