90+% certainty  Although I am having trouble in getting a roll cage sorted. I have not yet found someone in Scotland who can produce a cage for me. I am probably going to have to drive down to England and get one made. Phil wont sell me his cage, the hoarder that he is

Carbotech XP8 Pads

Post by Merlin » Wed Jan 08, 2014 2:20 pm

These bad boys turned up today too. Carbotech XP8's for KSport 8 pot calipers. They are a ceramic-kevlar compound which has an optimal operating temp of 90-740C. 740 is a bit much considering my RBF600 fluid boils at 312

Each pad weighs 630g  So 2.5Kg of front brake pads  After speaking with the guy at Carbotech the XP8's are more suited to my car and intended use so went with them.

Carbotech Europe wrote:The XP8™ is an even higher torque brake compound with a wide operating temperature range of 90°C to 740°C +. Carbotech XP8™ is the first of our racing compounds with outstanding initial bite at race temperatures, a high coefficient of friction and excellent modulation and release characteristics. This coupled with extremely high fade resistance, very rotor friendly and 100% non-corrosive dust make this a perfect choice for novice, intermediate and advanced track day users with any tyre, also proving to be the pad of choice in the UK sprint and hillclimb scene with many class wins and championship titles. The XP8™ can also still be driven safely to and from the track. Carbotech does not recommended XP8™ as a daily driven street pad due to elevated levels of dust and noise, however it is proving popular for the fast road users of high performance vehicles who can compromise in there quest for the braking performance and control they need.

Yeah they will do but they will be expensive. You'd be better off going for the Ferodo DS2500 or Hawk HP+ at half the price IMO.

Bodyshop teaster pics

Post by Merlin » Mon Jan 13, 2014 1:22 pm

I went to the body shop at lunch to see the progress on the track car. All is going well other than the carbon bonnet is not able to be taken back to the carbon. A previous owner has well and truly borked it. It will be painted black to match the lips. Also they told me a have a fuel leak at the tank, I could smell something but assumed it was the EVAP line venting, not to worry as it can be fixed 8-)

A few crappy phone pics of it mid-work, only the wings, roof and front bumper are not getting new paint:

The rear arch which had two holes in it, a big one at the bottom and smaller one in the top of the arch. All gone now.
Image

The other side has had its surface rust removed and sills cleaned up

The aerial hole has been filled
