Super Lap Scotland 2016 Round 2
Post by Merlin » Tue May 24, 2016 9:37 pm
I had a look and couldn't see anything that looked wrong. It might be inner CV joints, it doubt it is outer as it has new ones fitted only a couple hundred miles ago.
Super Lap Scotland 2016 Round 2
Direction - Reverse
Conditions - Cold with occasional heavy rain in the morning but drying in the afternoon

It tipped it down in the morning so in warmup I just pootled round and made sure the car was running right. In practice I placed 2nd and in qualifying I put it in 2nd as well.

In the final I managed to better my time but was piped into 2nd by 7/100th's of a second. The car felt good but the brakes were awesome. Apart from being new the only difference is the MTEC discs compared to the KSport discs that came with the kit.

The speed trap info from the final. As per usual I am not the fastest up the straight but I make it up under braking and in the corners.

Super Lap Scotland 2016 Round 3

Super Lap Scotland 2016 Round 3
Direction - Clockwise
Conditions - Warm and sunny

I didn't bother with warmup as the car was fine from the day before but in practice I was 3rd fasted behind the Impreza and Elise. We played with the rear wing and reduced its angle of attack to try and get some more speed. It worked, 1 extra mph on the straights
In qualifying I put in a good lap, beating my time from earlier, and placed 3rd.

Just as we lined up for the final it started to rain but half way through the session it looked like it was clearing up and there looked to be a dry line forming. Just as I begun my laps it started to rain again. I used a fast out lap to gauge the grip and went for it. I chirped the front brakes into the fist corner and then spun at the 3rd corner. I think I was beginning to lockup so got off the brakes a little and then ran out of road and had to turn and brake on the slippy surface. I got it going again and brought it home in 11th.

Awesome sauce
Well done Merlin. Shame on the spin.
I'm interested in more pics of the journals on the crank etc.

good result on Saturday round 2
its a tough competition with no room for error but you were mighty unlucky with the rain coming on as you sat in the pit lane waiting to go out - you could have got out on track when it was dry but there was a red flag for a car being towed off the circuit which delayed your start by 5 minutes

TBH there is not much to show most of the the bearings that failed got mushed down in to fine bits with the odd chunk in there.wurlycorner wrote:I'm interested in more pics of the journals on the crank etc.

Many thanks. I think the spin was simply a result of just a tiny bit too much speed for the grip levels. I ended up pretty much facing the wrong way on the apex so that shows I wasn't going that much faster than the conditions would allow.
