Super Lap Scotland 2014 Round 6
Super Lap Scotland Round 6
Getting the car ready on the Saturday

The weather couldn't have been better for the final round of Super Lap Scotland. I was well out of contention for any individual honours but I was still pushing to get points for the team competition. I am sure it was the biggest crowd of the year.

This was the first time I had driven the reverse circuit in the dry in this car so during the 20 min practice session I had to learn my braking points and how fast I could take the corners. Everything went pretty smooth and I was equalling the times I set in normal direction.
The below vid is with my new camera. Watch it full screen HD
. @nitin_s1 you wanted to see what the quality is like.

In qualifying I put in a good time but it only placed me 8th in class. There were a few new entrants this round, plus the two fastest cars were being double driven which pushed me further down the order. In next years competition the class structure will be altered and I am sure I will be much more competitive to the cars in my class.
Going down the gears and a mention by the commentator.

In the final I put in a decent lap and finished 7th in class and something like 14th overall (out of 30+ cars).

Despite the low placings I was very happy with how the day went and I think it has set me up nicely for next years competition. Our team (TrackScotland AK) took first place in the team competition for the season so I am happy about that.

In my first year of competitive motor sport I got two first place trophies and will receive a first place trophy for the team event so I am happy about that. A missive thanks to 3rdGenSteve and Vanzep for all the help they have given me throughout the year. Next year the car will be meaner, lighter and not have to compete against some the expensive machines I have had to this year

Re: Merlin's 4G Time Attack Lude - SLS Round 6 End of Season
Thanks.
Yeah I have a few things I want to do before next season. Try and eek some more power and try and loose as much weight as possible, so looking at poly windows and getting happy with the angle grinder.

That new camera works a treat - amazing that such a tiny little gizmo can produce such good quality video
Great first season racing
I rekon the class you are in has the most competition - top qualifying time for your class was nearly 2 seconds faster than that of class A
When you look around the paddock at some of your competitors and their set up you get a real sense that the Prelude is always going to be a bit of an underdog
Made me smile when the commentator said that Prelude was "well put together" that comment also made @3rdGenSteve very happy
I thought this line from the SLS offical write up summed it up nicely:
David Gebbie and Brian Innes' Porsche Caymans were split by the giant killing Honda Prelude of Allister Phillips.

Great vid that, got a link to the camera? I love the determined look in your face on some of the driving.
You really have created something special and you've clearly got some great driving skills to end up with that round of results this season. I just love it, one of the most motivating builds on here for me, the track is my destination, I'd love to enter a race event in the future too.

Got to change the title of your thread to Giant Killing Track Prelude.vanzep wrote: I thought this line from the SLS offical write up summed it up nicely:

Nick/Rob thanks for the kind words. It is satisfying to have a plan, build it, race it and see some success.
Whoever wrote that write-up was on the generous side
Although I was the only N/A FWD car in my class and (surprisingly) the only Honda in the whole competition.
