My last two ludes weren't lowered, they were bone stock.indigolemon wrote:This is more prevalent on lowered cars though. I'm on the original front droplinks for my 1994 lude.A1ex wrote:All 3 of my ludes have needed front drop links on the mot. Last MOT had an upper N/S wishbone and tie rod ends.
My current lude is on 105k now.
EDIT: the first two ludes were 98, my current is a 97

Ah wait, are the 5G front droplinks plastic?
Are the 5G's not different in terms of front droplinks? Have a nagging memory they may be a lot less rugged than the 4G ones.
That's surprising man. Clearly we need to discuss your driving styleA1ex wrote:My last two ludes weren't lowered, they were bone stock.indigolemon wrote:This is more prevalent on lowered cars though. You've never driven is south wales have you? Straight roads don't exist & you can't go far without a row of speed bumps!
Had a look atthe drop links the otherday, they looked metal. I think the rubber perishes quicker, might be a different grade or shore harndess...

Yeah, normally excessive play in a ball joint.Animal Mother wrote:Ball joints and the like?BigTom wrote:I've been looking at a lot of MOT histories recently in my search for a lude, and yeah, brakes as a whole seem to be the most common issue. And sometimes the suspension.

You can replace them without replacing the wish bone if you're determined to. Through eBay and mates rates at a garage I did my Accord's front right upper ball joint for £20, and the lower on the same side for £24. Buying a new wish bone was £35ish and a new hub was about £65 iirc. It's a slightly different wish bone but it's the same method, get a big hammer and a clamp and go hulk on the old ball joint before banging the new one in. Getting the price down that low involved me dicking around removing the wish bone though, a job I now have to repeat on the Prelude this weekend
this wouldn't be an ideal solution for a daily driver mind.

Mine failed one one tyre on the same axel not being the same width as the other
The advisories were;
Ball joint boots starting to perish
Did pretty well to be honest this year.
Previous MOT fails have all related to suspension and brakes though.
