It's a 1971 Beetle 1300 with a 1600 engine in it (with only about 4000 miles on the engine), and it has been laid up in a garage since 1995!! It is by no means pretty, or tidy, though it is fairly solid but could do with some extra metal letting in in a few places (floor pans, heater channels, and front inner wings being the main culprits!)
My mate will be collecting it for me next Saturday, and I'll be working on stripping it down and recommissioning it for the roads first of all, and then I'll see about rodding it.
The main bits it'll need doing are:
- brakes (they're shot after being sat for so long!)
- fuel tank cleaning (had fuel sat in it for nearly 20 years!)
- floor pan checking and plating up in places
- possibly need the heater channels patching up as well, as they're not great
- front inners wings patching up
- a good going over to make sure everything works as it should do
Apparently, before it came off the road in '95, the gearbox / clutch was making noises, which I will have to investigate when it's up and running again.
The real fun will be trying to repair the heater channels and floor pans without removing the body!!
The plans are to Volksrod it, do a 4/5" roof chop, and convert it to a pick up.
It'll certainly be a fun project!
