Wiper Arms refurbished & Replacement Rear Light Clusters Fit
Just two small updates...
The first I did before Christmas I think. It was a simple case I was replacing the wiper blades allround and the arms weren't looking too hot...





So I poached the arms off the donor, and after a good sanding down and a lick of paint...




I also robbed the plastic nut cover from the donor too...


Makes all the difference
Then just yesterday I finally got around to swapping the practically water-logged rear clusters with the ones from the donor...
So from this...



To the new and improved...

New Front H&R Lowering Springs And Delphi Dampeners Fitted
So today as intended I finally got around to dropping the front end of the Aerodeck. I've had the new shocks and springs since long before Christmas. They're a full set of brand new Delphi shocks (A decent German OE quality brand) I managed to pick up for a mere £25 a pair
...



And the springs are respectable H&R lowering springs which should give a 40mm drop alround...



Anything lower than 40mm would require performance dampeners and needless to say there aren't many options in that department. Koni used to make them, but discontinued them a while ago. They pop up occasionally secondhand in the States, but they nearly fetch brand new prices, not to mention shipping and import duties.
I also had to buy new spring compressors as my last set got pinched when my shed got broken into a year or so ago...

So I set about dropping her, but I knew from having starting a bit later than intended that I was only going to get around to dropping the front today.
It was going so far, so good. Being a 23 year old car I was expecting a little bit of corrosion and seized bolts. Fortunately for me though, everything was releasing with ease
... Apart from one bolt... The lower bolt that bolts the dampener fork to the lower control arm... One I really could do with removing
The nut had come off no problem, but the bolt just wouldn't turn or slide out. So, I dropped the upper arm assembly out, which allowed the upright and the LCA to drop and give me enough room to pull the dampener from the fork...

So out it comes...

Then the disassembling and transfer of the dampener components commenced, but straight away I had a bit of an issue with the top mount bush's spacer... It had corroded on to the shaft and to the dust cover's top washer...

So I beat it off
It didn't look too great after I'd finished with it, but it cleaned up alright for me to reuse.
So the new strut goes together...


And is put into place and everything else refit...



Also, whilst I'm on the front offside wheel, I think I may have found my "knocking when turning" issue...


I've got me a split CV boot. I thought from day one that it was a CV joint, but then it was really on and off (nothing gradual about it) and when I asked my mechanic to check it out, he thought it was the diff
Anyway, I'm intending to swap the whole driveshafts (both sides) from the donor (The NSF CV boot also has a split in it, although it's not all the way through... yet).
Then I obviously went about fitting the new dampener and spring on the nearside, but I was able to remove the lower fork bolt, which made things a whole lot easier, and took half the time. That side also had the same issue with the top mount bush's spacer corroding, but it was easier to sort.
Then moment of truth... Wheels back on and down she goes
... Then up she goes again as she's now too low for me to get the jack out!
Slabs go under and down she goes again
...

Those current tyres are also undersize. The new tyres will have an extra 9.75mm on the radius.

She's currently covered in mud as I had a bit of a mud pit of a front drive recently.
And I honestly wouldn't recommend going any lower than 40mm on standard shocks Dom. You'll realise when driving yours for the first time that she handles like a bit of a boat due to the dampeners. After removing the original ones today I found that once compressed, they do not return on their own, were as the new Delphi ones do (Hence why I wanted new dampeners... She's 23 years old after all). Going lower than 40mm will through the handling out big time... Especially on cut springs (I will be keeping my springs by the way, sorry
