Soggy Carpet and New Front Lip
Had a bit of an issue with the Aerodeck of recent. Ever since the bad weather I've had a soggy driver's carpet
All other carpet areas are fine, but the driver's is saturated half the time. It's either been tracking it's way from above, down the bulkhead I thought or from underneath, from a potential rusty floor pan.
So first off was to remove the skuttle panel and check under there...

All was fairly dry, but I did have a few areas that were just gross and could have caused potential issues...

There was a very remote chance that due to the blockages, that water could have somehow managed to get in the aux heating air ducting...

Anyway that all cleaned up it was time to check the floor pan, so seat out...

Carpet up...

An it's solid
But within seconds... Plip plip plip...

So other seats out...

And carpet out...

If you can't work it out the driver's footwell is the corner at the top of the pic
... The extra dark one
...

So the carpet shall remain out until dry and I've found the leak.
Meanwhile this also gave me the opportunity to do the one thing I love most in these situations...
Turn...

To...

Then console, trim and seats back in...

And to make it feel a little more homely...

The driver's mat will be coming out again whenever there's rain/puddles (there's a big puddle I have to drive through to get to work at the moment), so as I can hope to spot where the water's coming in.
In other news, I also had the chap who's going to be sorting the bodywork visit today to give me a quote. The main thing I asked him to quote for are removing the rust from the sills, arches and the corners under the rear bumper and adding new metal. There are also quite a number of other things I've asked him to do as well, which my signature strip will be a clue to and including a full respray. Either way I was very pleased with his quote in that I can afford it
and him himself as well (He's definitely the kind of guy I want working on my car
), so she's booked in for the 2nd March
I'll have a number of things to prepare either before or during the time he has her for him to finish off, and I'll also be doing several things the month after I have her back again, but fingers crossed everything should ready for Japfest
First part of the makeover is this...

It's a quite rare EF Civic SiR front lip. I've taken a bit of a gamble as to whether it would fit or not as I couldn't find any info on the web suggesting either, but it's not far off. I quickly offered it up when I got home the other day and maybe it needs chopping in the middle and widening slightly, but either way it's not great hardship. Also it's twice as deep as my existing front lip, which is what I wanted, but it's formed like this...

That's the top, so I might actually make some small brackets up so that it actually sits lower, but if/when I end up going lower, I can always mount it slightly higher up again, but still keep the effect of a deeper lip

Can't wait to see the lip on there mate. Should look sweet
As for the leak, mine's as dry as a bone inside, so I can't offer up any advice unfortunately on that one, but I would suggest checking the top of the pedal box though as I have had some cars get a leaky driver's foot well where water enters through the holes for the pedals.
And stop taunting me with photos showing your dash mat you muffin!!!

Thing is the insulation that sits under where the pedals are, against the bulkhead is bone dry. If it was tracking down the bulkhead somewhere (ie. like through the pedal holes) then that insulation would be saturated tooCrazy_C wrote:Can't wait to see the lip on there mate. Should look sweet![]()

my lude was leaking at the very top corners of the windscreen. As you have the carpets out, get some red food colouring and mix it in a watering can of water. Park on some grass as Not to stain your driveway. Poor it over the car and try to look for the leak. Wash it off straight away so it shouldnt stain the rubbers. Do you get any wind noise from the windscreen area. Personally i would seal the screen anyway.

The End
Not 100% sure I actually want to share this with you guys, but come Friday morning on my way to work I had a bit of an incident in there Aerodeck
The outcome was...

I've never had a crash before but kind of thought I'd be a bit more shaken up than I actually was. I was more just angry with myself that I'd been so stupid and ruined my record
At first glance though I thought it's alright, I had a replacement for everything from the donor, and it won't matter about the colour difference as she's having a full respray in March anyway. I was then even more pleased that it'd happened now and not after I'd had all the work done. In fact I've been incredibly paranoid recently what with all the planned work coming up and thinking I've never even witnessed an accident, let alone been in one, and that surely it must be my time soon
Funny how things work ay?
Anyway I got the spare on and continued to work, which was just a few hundred yards down the road so I could examine the damage further. Unfortunately the lower control arm was also bent so both front wheels were pointing in opposite directions. I pulled up outside work where a TNT delivery man wound down the window to ask what had happened. Besides admiring the car (
) he also pointed out that the roof was creased too
Indeed it was creased and you could see how the passenger door was pushed back
Anyway, I called my breakdown recovery neighbour who came and picked the Aerodeck up and took us both home so I could have a proper look. I removed the front wing and found...

This should be straight...

This is an example of the crack that travelled most of the distance under the front wing...

You can just make out the ripple in the roof here...

And this is how much the passenger door has dropped...

And this is what I did to one of my beloved RH Classic's
...

And so that's it... In as many months this is my second car to say goodbye to
I'm not having much luck at the moment...

As said I'm just glad this happen now and not after I had all the bodywork sorted and a full respray. So lets hope the perfect compromise gamble of a replacement goes to prove everything happens for a reason
