I very nearly got it remapped - probably would have kept it if I did

Back to my Accord - this evening I fixed a very small problem that was bugging me massively, thanks to @nafemannathan

Changed the air filter today, looks like it really needed it!

Yeah, I was surprised how gunked up it was, to be fair we've done a lot of miles in it since getting it though. I'm hoping my fuel economy might pick up a little now, although I won't hold my breath

Re: 3rd Gen Accord - MOT Fayul

Post by jjmartin349571 » Mon Jan 06, 2014 6:25 pm

Hi Folks,

The Accord had its MOT today... Dropped it off at Halfords earlier, and it has failed on a couple of bits unfortunately:

The quote for the parts and labour has come to roughly £530... So unfortunately as I need a cheap daily driver the Accord will be getting scrapped :(

Jokes

I'll order some brake lines tomorrow, and will get some more CV boots off of eGay. A set of part worn tyres on the front will set me back about £30, and that will just leave me with the welding :? I think I'll phone around for a few quotes. This time I'd ideally like a proper repair, the idea being to do it right and do it once as opposed to a bodge that leaves me up jobby creek again next year. As for the licence plate lights, I checked these as soon as I got home...

Yeah, because they aren't working are they...

Hopefully should be well under £530 all in though 8-)

Guess It's back to my Mum's Renault Clio again in the meantime though

Do they usually quadruple estimates before they quote the customer? Or are they just that slow that's pretty much all labour charge?

You had me going for a second there as well

Are you saying that £132 to replace a CV boot isn't a good deal?! :o  I think It cost me about £20 all in to replace 2 on my Prelude, plus a few of hours of my unprofessional labour

But yeah, both front brake hoses and a CV boot was about £350 of the work... I think they must have quoted for doing the jobs individually as doing the boot would take no time whilst you're in there doing the brake lines - especially with a ramp and proper tools.

I aim to please

But it would take a lot worse to make me get rid of this car - it's safe for now :)
