Lude Generation

Ive got an aftermarket steering wheel that i would like to fit.
Its a 2nd hand wheel and came out a BB4 and is going into my BB4 so should be an easy swap i hope...
There are two wires that connect up the horn button - 1 is soldered to the body of the boss and the other is just loose - does this wire just hang loose....or should it be soldered onto something...im no good with electrics

The one soldered to the body will be ground. The loose one will connect to the positive trigger wire for the horn.

Could be the other way round no? Given the boss will have a contact ring on the back - that could be the 'fixed' one. If that's the case, can that one just be sandwiched when you bolt the wheel up? The one soldered to the boss will pick up the feed from the contact behind, so the loose one will be the ground (via the column I assume)?

Thats what i was thinking as there doesnt seem to be any evidence of solder on the loose wire so it just sandwiches between something - but between what and where?
Thanks for the quick replies - im hoping to fit it today - should be unbolt old steering wheel and bolt new one in - easy job even for me

Can you post a pic showing inside the boss, where the other wire is soldered?

the wire goes through the boss and out a slot in the body and is soldered to the bottom plate

My Nardi wheel's horn is wired as Gayno describes.

Looking at that last pic I'd say Nick's is the other way round. The attached wire is the feed through the back plate.

I'd sandwich the loose wire between the boss and the steering wheel and you'll either have success or your horn permanently sounding Should be success though

Before you attach the steering wheel, slip the boss over the spline so that the back plate touches the spring connector (Make sure the horn button doesn't make contact with the boss as it may make you jump if it is wired up backwards ). Then once the boss is in position, literally tap the bare ended wire on the boss. Hopefully the horn shouldn't sound.

If it doesn't sound, hold the bare ended wire in contact with the boss and whilst in contact, push the horn button. This should then sound the horn. In which case, sweet, all you need do is sandwich that bare ended wire between the wheel and boss like what's already been said. (Although you obviously want the wheel to sit flush on the boss)

That should really be the only option you'll need with that style of horn as that will complete the circuit. If it doesn't, obviously report back
