Rear drivers seat is damp - Gear box gaitor

Post by theturkv » Mon Jan 18, 2016 3:49 pm

Hi

Apologies if i have done this wrong but im posting two issues under one post.

1st - how on earth do i remove the gear box gaitor, i purchased a new one which i want to install. I have removed all screws from the drivers and passengers sides of the centre console but nothing seems to be giving??? Clearly im doing something wrong.

2nd - I have notices the rear seat, drivers side is damp. The footwell is dry, the back rest is dry but only the seat itself is damp. Nobody has sat on that seat, if there was a leak wouldnt other areas near the seat be also wet or damp?? Im confused :?

would appreciate any help. thank you.

Blocked sunroof drains for the wetness, also check the boot seal, sunroof seal and seals around the rear lights incase its tracked back.

As for the gear gaitor you have to remove the plastic surround to get to the bottom of the gaitor. Not too hard to do.

Your spare wheel well will probably be full of water from the problems as mentioned above. When you brake, the water comes forward and ends up under the rear bench.

As for the gaitor....I have removed the screws from both sides and im trying to pull the plastic surroundings and I keep thinking that its going to snap lol. Il give it another go.

Thanks.

Not sure you should need to tug at the centre console to remove it? It should just lift out with no resistance if you have removed all the fixing screws... Or is the 5g totally different to a 4g?

There are 4 screws each side on the 5th Gen. It will then lift off. You need to pull it up a bit and unplug the ash tray light. Gear stick in neutral and handbrake all the way up.
Unemptied coin tray everywhere.

Open all the screws tht u can see on each side
Not forgetting the 2 In the arm rest compartment.
And u need to take the end pieces of carpet off from the front of the console I think there's one on each side then u see some movement

so thanks for all the help, i managed to remove the centre console.

as mills pointed out my boot was full of water. i ended up removing all the boot lineing and also the back seats. i took some pictures to show you guys but how on earth do i insert an image. so anyway i have cleared up the water, and have got the seats resting near a heater to dry up. i didnt check to see if the sunroof drains are clogged or not. However i will need sit in the car and get a freind to hose it down and ill see where exactly is the leak coming from. Im assuming some of you guys have gone through a similar thing? I understand this is a 'common' fault? if so how is this rectified???
