Crumbling steering wheel

On these recent damp mornings I've had an issue with the steering wheel - it becomes sticky and I get black gunk over my hands.
Can I get a covering tape or something to wrap round the wheel, or is that not a good idea?

Probably either something like this........

or replace the wheel entirely.

Is that meant to be a leather covering, or is it plastic?

I think it's supposed to be leather.

The Nardi wheel in my truck is doing this too

Like you say it's a real pain in the arse with wet hands.

I think the only solution is a cover or to get the wheel re-upholstered.

Have you tried a (decent) leather cleaner, followed by a leather conditioner?

my Momo does this as well, especially in very cold/warm weather. I just clean my hands afterwards :|

That's handy to know, I have a few wheels which will need refurbishment in due course.
