And there still is both of those, airbags or not!
Although an airbag will hopefully increase your chances of survival, presumably provided that you are the size and weight of a crash test dummy.
On a separate note it's my understanding that if the SRS light is on then the whole system is disabled as it has detected a potential fault... Might be worth bearing in mind if you do leave the connector loose, due to implications for passengers etc.
