Finally signed up. Own a UK BB1 VTEC, soon to be ATR swapped

Hi all! Should have probably signed up months ago, however I haven't really been on forums as my old laptop was way past its best. Got a new one now though so should be a bit more active online!

Here's my 4th gen. UK spec H22 VTEC manual. Full fat with 4WS, cruise, aircon, EL dash etc.

The day after I picked it up. (Picked it up around midnight on a Thursday night after a late afternoon shift!)

It had a monumental oil leak when I got it, pouring smoke out where it was dripping onto the manifold and filling the car with smoke whenever I stopped! Fixed the next day for £20.

Cleans up quite nicely:

To cut a long story short, I bought it as a beater to use last winter (I'm well into my Hondas, also own an ATR, EG6 and EJ9) as it was cheap and I thought I'd try something a little different to what I'm used to. Turns out I love it! Best £400 I've ever spent.

Spent some time on track in it last spring before my Civic was finished. Was really impressed with it!

While using it as a backup after my EG6 died in Belgium (another long story, electrical fault and clutch failure on the way back from the Nurburgring) in August, the cambelt went and it hasn't turned a wheel since.

Bought a BB8 VTi cheap that had been smashed round a field (shame as it seems it was a nice car before) for its engine and box. Got that out and then a very cheap ATR came up with a massive rot hole in the bulkhead. You can guess the rest. Haven't removed either of the engines yet as the weather has been crap and I've now got an outdoor unit.

This is how it's sat since September...

So the plans are; ATR engine and LSD box, remap and just thrash it until it breaks again!

Also want to fit the 5 stud hubs from the BB8, which hopefully will enable me to bolt ATR brakes straight on. And R32 GTR wheels  Also wanna fit the glass roof from the BB8, I miss having a glass roof panel!

Welcome along pal.

She cleaned up well after that first pic.
Really liked the gold wheels against this colour as well, what happened to those rims?

Looking forward to see how you get on with the engine swap. And interested in the R32 wheels?? What's the idea behind that? Surely the wheels would be worth more than the car?
The lude bug seems to have bitten you hard though. They're unbelievably loveable and fun to drive.

Plus a the 4th gen front end is pure sex.

Welcome. Sounds like you've had some fun with that already  It's a rare colour, that.
I'm with prahunt - I liked the gold wheels too, as it happens!

:? That 5g certainly had been in the wars!

The pictures flatter it to be honest, it's nowhere near as clean as it looks in the pictures! Think the dark colour helps in that respect. Can't wait to get the engine swap done, mainly to drive the damn thing again but also because I've heard very good things about mapped ATRs... 8-)

As for the R32 wheels, no other reason than just because I like them! I can get a set for £200, which was half the purchase price of the car to be fair! Do intend on owning a whole R32GTR in the next few years however.....

The gold wheels are actually BBSs from a Volvo S40 T4 it turns out, I do quite like them but I like R32GTR wheels more! Plus I have loads of 5 stud wheels lying around so it's ideal if I get a puncture.

I've had a lot of fun to be honest! Mate droped out of a trackday at Anglesey that I'd gone along to watch, so I took his place in the mighty Lude. No preperation whatsoever, mismatched tyres, crap brakes etc. It was absolutely brilliant. The most controllable and predictable lift off oversteer I've ever experienced (and my EG6 has had every suspension component replaced with DC2 gear, fully polybushed and alignment setup etc) The only thing that limited it was brake fade, and dropping out of VTEC under hard cornering due to oil starvation! It didn't seem to bother it, however.

Pacific Blue I was told by the previous owner? He reckoned it was one of a handful left in the UK.

Was a shame about the 5th gen, the lad had got it cheap as an MOT failure (rot, of course) but it would have been fine to patch up and use as a daily. Every year they buy a few cheap cars and race round a field one afternoon at the end of summer. It honestly drove really well even in the state I got it in! Aircon was ice cold, cruise control worked, 4WS worked, the lot!

It had 3 owners before me in it's current guise, with the BBSs etc on. Luke Bassett bought it a while back, sold it to a lad down south and I got it off a guy called James Russell in the Midlands.

This is how it looked before Luke got it, not great at all!
