So picked the Lude up today, It drove perfectly on the journey home so I am well pleased with it.

here are a few pics.

Its a UKDM 2.0i registered on 29/04/93 with a sunroof and little else. I am sure the more knowledgeable will tell me the entire spec but it doesn't seem to have 4WS, no aircon or cruise and its an auto. All this with the exception of cruise is ok with me. The exhaust is blowing so will need fixing for the mot. and i will probably do the cambelt just to be sure.
There is a small amount of rust on the rear arches and bubbles on the sunroof and a myriad of small and not so small scratches. With only 82,000 miles it seems honest enough and the interior, while being low spec needs nothing more than a good valet and a bit of paint and detailing. Oh and a new Ariel.
All in all I am well pleased as it cost almost nothing. Seeing how most people take off the cruise is there a how to to add it or is it too complicated and as I need to replace the blowing exhaust is it worth upgrading the front part of the exhaust and manifold as I need to replace it or is a standard unit up to the job.

Looks like a good buy! 4WS was only available on 2.2 VTEC models, I think you could get cruise control on 2.0 as an option.

Nice feeling when you pick up a new lude isn't it :D

Defitely an intersting and unique aerial mod there

The cruise control ECU is standalone and it works by an entirely seperate cable onto the throttle, so it should be possible to retro-fit cruise I would have thought? A reasonable amount of work though.
Best way would be to go and take everything off a donor car yourself so you know exactly what's required.

Off the top of my head, starting points would be: On/off button from the dash and wiring from there to ECU cruise ECU, steering wheel control buttons, steering hub ring, wiring from steering hub to the cruise ECU (mounted above the steering column under the dash), loom through to the cruise cable vacuum unit in the engine bay, cruise cable vacuum unit and cable... Presumably it would also need to loom into the gear shift selector because knocking it out of gear would knock cruise off and it would also need to connect into the speed signal of the car and the dash to put on the cruise control light when engaged..

If you're lucky that's all 'add on'/ancilliary looms that plug into the existing looms (like the fog lights which could be added as an accessory). If you're unlucky it isn't and it means chopping them about.

If you have a look in the service manual (wiring schematics and wiring diagrams) you might be able to suss that last bit out.

In my 2.2VTEC all wirings for CC doesn't look as an option stuff. All wires are in existing looms and U can't remove them easily. So bad news but it looks like U R unlucky.
On the other side I've retrofited climate control to my UKDM so this would be a piece of cake for somebody who knows how and isn't scared to cut some wires.

So booked SYS in for her mot for tomorrow and bought another Prelude assuming the seller keeps to his end of the bargain, I didn't plan to but it was just up the road and silly cheap. This ones a Jap import vtec still moted and taxed with leather and lots of toys including 4WS, cruise, climate, and so they say traction control did they come with traction? but also some rust. planning to use it as a parts car so there might be considerable parts swapping going on :) I will know more later when I pick it up....
Thanks for cruise info looks like I might have to swap looms then or strip what I need from it assuming my loom doesn't come with the wires in it. Will look once I know it will pass the mot.

Ah cool I guess it was an option and it seems to have a lot of them, now I just have to wait all day before I pick it up is it wrong to be excited about picking up a car and seeing what toys it has? My old man said I would grow out of it but I am over 50 now and Nope no signs of growing up

Definitely not wrong to be excited about seeing what toys a car has when you pick it up!

TCS is one of the more rare options on 4th gens. Reportedly it's crap/annoying, but I can't say myself because that system doesn't currently work on mine

Didn't have time to have a good look as I was on a tight schedule but will do so over the weekend if I get a chance. My mate who drove it home did say it was "a touch spritely even with a spacesaver on the front" :P It does have a couple of huge round speaker covers on the back shelf though so lets hope they are covering something tasty .... 8-)
