BrazierS' BB6 Prelude SiR

Post by braziers » Wed Aug 07, 2013 5:50 pm

Hey guys. I'm Sam, 23 from Chelmsford.
Been around Hondas for years and have owned a fair few.
I currently drive an EP3, but I just miss that older vibe, and the satisfaction from making a ropey old Honda into a thing of beauty.
So I thought to myself, what have I always thought 'damn they would be nice if done right!'
Came to the conclusion, 5th Gen Prelude.

Went in search of an import SiR, and picked up this one for £1k.
It's a little rough around the edges, but it's solid mechanically and just what I need to start getting my hands dirty with again!

Good Points:

- Engine runs perfect.
- Interior is near mint, only wear is to Drivers Side Lower Seat Bolster.
- Import model so has the A/C and Auto-CC as standard.
- HKS De-Limiter already fitted.

Bad Points:

- Bodywork is a little rough. Front bumper has had rally lights previously fitted to it, so 3 holes next to both headlights and also has a slight crack in one of the headlight corners of the bumper. Passenger side door has around 3 ripples in, and would benefit from a replacement door. Rear arches have a hint of rust in the lower corners, although it is only within the arch, not though into the quarter panel, which can hopefully be sorted easily enough. Boot lock hole has started to bubble with rust but can be sorted easily. Other than that there are a few scuffs here and there. Ideally, a full respray would be the best course of actions, but I'll see how the good panels come out after a good machine polish!
- 5th Gear has a little crunch shifting into it when at high revs (around 5k+), but according to the forums, a lot of H22A Preludes develop this, it was a manufacturing issue with Honda who installed a weak 5th gear selector fork.
- Previous owner has installed more wiring then I can fathom for audio stuff. Head-unit plug wiring has been cut and modified to suit custom 6x9 wiring. WIll all be ripped out and returned to OEM.
- Ignition barrel is sticky and take a little wiggle to get it to turn. Will be replaced with a full barrel and lock set for the whole car.
- Aftermarket Immobiliser and Central Locking installed. Fob tab for key-ring is broken so the fob needs carrying around separately to my keys at all times. OEM Central Locking is still in place and OEM fob still works so no idea why aftermarket is also installed. Aftermarket rubbish will all be ripped out and replaced with a cleaner, wireless immobiliser fob for the key-ring so no buttons needed other than OEM remote fob.
- Gauge Cluster has been converted to read in MPH, however, the mileage is still in KM so only the fascia has been replaced by the looks of things. Speedo assembly will be swapped out with a MPH one.

So, let the project begin!

Here's some pictures...

Got loads of plans for it.
It goes into the bodyshop Monday for welding, sealing and painting around the sills and arches.

I shall stick a list of plans up when I get a mo!

Good buy 8-)

About the sticky barrel: try another key if you have one. Mine started being a prick and took a wiggle to turn, switched to a spare key that had never been used and it was fine. When I compared the two keys the old one was majorly worn  could save a bit of faffing if that is indeed the case for you.

There's a brand new key and an old key. Neither work well.
It's definitely the ignition barrel, there's about 5mm of play in the whole thing, just gonna save hassle and swap it out!

Well done on the purchase!

Which bodyshop are you putting it through out of interest?

Notice you don't have floor mats in the pics? There's a set of red 5th gen floormats available on here atm. Who was it that had them at the national meet? I forget now  @Rattymcclelland? :?

It's going to Chelmsford Accident Repair Specialists down by ARU.
Good guys down there, previously did my EG6 and the standard of work is brilliant.
If you need anything done, ask to speak to Danny and say I sent ya, he'll sort you out!

As for the red mats, I do want some!
