MazingerZ's Type S

So this is pretty much what the Type S looked like when I picked it up yesterday. Pinched a picture from Si, will update with some of mine at some point.

Just starting this thread to maintain a list of the things that need doing to it - and to try and pick up some advice from more knowledgeable types on here. :D

Engine and gearbox seem fine, which is good. Probably going to take the car to Performance Autoworks for a check over anyways. Changing gear is maybe a little hard work, 5th and reverse anyway, but possibly normal for the Lude?

Si already switched a sticky caliper, so brakes are cool. Handbrake is a bit high though.

To fix the broken ride the skinny tires need to be changed and coilovers need to be set up properly. Might as well clean up the alloys at the same time. I'm hoping that will kill the squeak in the front, drivers side at high speed - unless this is a common problem with 5th Gens?

Hopefully that will sort things out. After that is done and I can actually drive it properly, there's other less pressing things to fix, in no particular order:

Both headlights need to be swapped out. Passenger side is full of condensation, and the other is painted black inside so will no longer match the passenger side when it's swapped out. I presume the painting was done by a former keeper DIY style, this is probably what has compromised the seal on the unit. Quite why anybody would want to do that I don't know. Rank blue bulbs need to go in the bin too.

Exhaust back box is sat quite a way in under the bumper, so needs to be sorted at some point.

Passenger side front arch lining is a bit battered.

Drivers side door handle has got a stretched/damaged spring needs replacing.

Both skirts and front bumper & lip need a bit of TLC from someone with body shop and paint skills, as do some other parts here and there like the drivers side door mirror, all the rubber around the doors and windows, and the roof strips etc.

Drivers seat has accommodated too many UKDM-spec wide loads and is in need of a little loving.

Horrible shift knob wants to go in the bin.

Has the wrong steering wheel? Black stitching - pretty sure Type S is red stitch only, not sure why that would be swapped out?

The er...interesting ICE system has got to go. Si moved the amp from under the passenger seat, to the boot - next stop is the bin. The rear speakers have been switched for something so deep it rubs the boot mechanism - need to be replaced with something smaller and then everything wired off the head unit; I don't need an amped set up to listen to the news on Radio 5. I believe the front speakers have also been swapped out, what for and how well is anybodies guess. I also know literally nothing about ICE & the wiring involved - any ICE experts on here?

Can I afford to get any of this done properly... :?

All of these ICE issues you mentioned was done by fluffsta over on Prelude UK.

Have a search and you will find
CRX Jim initially owned it on PUK
Fluffsta owned it next and did the ICE.
Sha then bent over and bought it
Si then bought it. That exhaust is my old exhaust. Yes it does sit quite a way in.

I drove this car when Fluffsta had it and i rememebr the black stitched wheel. Was probably swapped at some point but no real biggy. Just get a Civic Type R wheel. Black headlights are a must. Much better than the chrome ones. Just reheat in the oven and close them together tighter.

Yeah, I read up some of the online history. I wouldn't want to knock any of the previous owners, I'm sure they're all good lads, it just seems a little bit of a shame the car was meddled with.

I think one of the clips is damaged on the water filled light, so the oven isn't enough to save it from the bin. You have to take the bumper off to swap them out right?

@paul72. If I get it sorted so the amp is no longer needed, you're welcome to it.

I broke a few clips on my projector headlights and they are sealed fine. No water. But yes its a bumper off job.

Ah, that's a wee pain in the arse just to swap a light, but maybe it can be saved after all.

ICE, ICE baby...

I think the ICE cabling meant the piece of interior trim that has the flare holder mounted to it wasn't secure...because it just fell off. Is this thing supposed to be removable while the dash is still in place?

This is the chap in question.

It's not been put back on correctly when running cable behind it, and I cannot for the life of me get it back on.

it clips in to the metal on the side, it is removable with the dash in.
