Update for March 2017
So, I've spent just over 200 hours on the car so far and the strip down and refurb continues. I've been fighting against some serious bodging, rusted/seized parts, lack of spare parts (Honda have nothing but bolts and washers for this car!) and dealing with a multitude of companies from all over the world who have shipped parts over to me.
The compression test showed 155/130/130/155 (min 135 - Max 170) which suggests the usual head gasket leak between cyls 2 and 3. It seems with the B20A7 it's a matter of 'when' not 'if'. My previous '91 Lude did exactly the same around 110k so I guess this motor has done well? I'm now gathering rebuild parts for a full strip down and rebuild. I've opted for bronze valve guides (ITM), NPR rings, Payen gaskets, cam seals and valve stem oil seals, ADL main bearings, ITM big ends, Gates belts and a few OEM parts as/when they were available. The good news is Rich at
Performance Autoworks is doing the rebuild as I have more than enough on my plate!
