Jay's 3rd Gen Build

Post by jay m3 » Tue Nov 29, 2016 6:14 pm

So I thought I'd start a journal as I have slightly more time now. Just a recap, I bought the car in June 2016. Very clean car, 60k miles. Paintwork was a let down as was the ride height on 16" wheels. Exhaust was blowing from downpipe & flexi. So here's the day she was picked up:

Then it went in to get the exhaust sorted out. Ordered a new flexi pipe. Got the dowpipe welded & all was sorted.

After that I really wanted a rear spoiler. Managed to source one in white so had it resprayed & fitted:

P.S Love the 4WS ☺️

Next I needed to go lower. I bought some springs & booked her in to the garage & had it dealt with.
Hardly ever do you see another one on road, I spotted this rather upset & miserable car on my journey, also you can see the car lowered:

Unfortunately, these springs messed up my shocks & handling was horrible. The ride height was good so started contemplating to have the shocks changed or go for coilovers.

Months went by without any progress & then voila! Or very own members Felix's car came up for sale. I bought the car just for the coilovers. So here she is the night we bought her:

Felix had stripped out the whole interior bar the front seats. He did give me all the parts but it was a mission putting it back together. So here we are in my mates garage on 25th November at 11pm:

Took us 6 hours getting it all back in. My mate was doing most of the work, i was either watching or making the teas.

I did want to repair Felix's car, take what I needed & sold her just to avoid it being scrapped. But when we got it on the ramp few days later, I realised I couldnt afford to do that as the rust had spread ro sills & needed far more effort than i could put in because of my red project.

Coilovers in:

Aftermarked ARB fitted aswel:

Pollybushes with lifetime warranty fitted:

As I had the white one & was a prefacelift, I decided I wanted the pre facelift front bumper on mine so took that off.

Stay tuned for more updates as the car is in for a bit of cosmetic work. Trying to get it sorted to attend mimms on 11th December.

Here's the white one waiting for the facelift bumper to be painted white:

Here she is all back together, looks like a car now:

Still waiting on my friend's colleague who is the panel beater to see if the arches can be repaired. I'd still prefer to fix it. But if that means I'm going to be out of pocket then I may have to rethink my options. If someone is willing to buy this off me please holla as Felix wanted it fixed as do I. All my money is going on my other Lude.

Yep, the red one looks in great nick.
The wheels are a bit 'modern' though for it, imo.

 where are you? I have a white facelift front bumper I could possibly be persuaded to swap for your red one, to save you painting it?

The wheels are from a 'modern' civic & agreed do not suit the car. Are you interested in the red facelift bumper? As im in East London in Chingford. I was going to paint it myself but if you want it, it's there. Save me the hassle tbh, as I'd rather concentrate & spend time on the red one.

Next up, I will be addressing the minor rust problem my car had under each lower rear arch. Just bubbling but we all know how it spreads on these. This will be cut out properly & new metal welded. Stay tuned for pics.

Cheers

That could work.
Want me to get some pics of the white bumper this weekend and send over to you?

Ok thats fine. Sooner the better really. My red bumper was fairly clean bar a minor scrape on the left hand corner where someone nudged it while pulling away from parking. I'll get some pics up. Does yours have all the lights + fogs working? Also where are you?

So here's a pic of the lower rear arch that's started to bubble.

Image

The other side is the same. The car is 25 years old & that's the only rust on it! How cool is that? The other side is the same but was parked too close to the wall to get a pic. The car is in the body shop to have arches sorted out. Plus other bits & pieces.
