Andy's 4th Gen. The long journey begins.... Badly

Post by AndyPandy1 » Fri Jun 27, 2014 3:37 pm

Finally Got round to getting the lude out this year, hoping to bring it back to life.

Here is how it was before anything was done..... After a quick clean.

From a and going by the interior, its not too bad.

But then.......
Image
This Is the worse of the two side. i Still haven't had a chance to get them apart yet and see the full extent of the damage but i'm pretty scared.
Image
The other arch is starting to bubble aswell. :( Im dreading looking at the sills.
Image
I need to respray the bumper too, that's fairly straight forward.

For the MoT:
Weld sump which had a fairly big leak.
New rear discs and pads.
Both handbrake cables :o
2 rear brake lights.

To be honest I was expecting worse as the car has sat outside for 2 years
So then taxed the old girl and went out for spin. Very Happy days.
Image

So it came to Wednesday and got the car back after lending it out to a customer for a second time :o .... only to be greeted with this.
Image
They had not only hit the wheel and destroyed it but also ran with the tyre flat for atleast 2-3 miles. I only realised when I got in the car to drive it and thought there is defiantly something not right  (Yes the customer kept their mouth shut about the whole thing) :o

So I took the wheel and tyre off to see the full extent (which was more of a ball ache than I thought), Then got my brother to heat treat it before it gets finished tomorrow. I hope it doesn't crack but its not looking good
Image
Both sides Mullered.
Image
Its going to be a long weekend. but i'm hoping to have it back on the road in some fashion by monday.

So unfortunatly its a sad conclusion to this chapter, but I should get the wheel back tomorrow and i'v treated the ol' girl to TWO new front tyres :)

More coming SOON.

Tell me about it!!!!

my brother "yer ill fix the wheel"

I have know idea how they managed that but I was sad when I saw it and decided to take it to a proffessional.

I think it's going to be a set of new wheels.

Have you questioned the customer about it? Surely they can't deny it.

Tell me about it and i'm still perusing money from the people as well. I think ill only get about £75 from them but that's pretty pointless a I cant buy just one wheel.

I saw some pretty nice rims at the shop I took mine too today, but at £500 upwards I think its going to be "very" used wheels.

Wish I could just get on with the actual work that needs doing but cant get it to the lift with only 3 wheels on it.

Tomorrow I'm at a local (to us) bodyshop for a quote to repair/replace inner and outer arches. Will gladly let you know the price I get if you're considering sorting your rust any time soon. Unless of course you have a contact in the trade... In which case share please  cash waiting if you know anyone that needs some work and can do a good job of it.

Its the keeping quiet bit that gets on my nerves

most folk are pretty understanding when it comes to accidental damage and things can be resolved in a fair way that need not be too costly but i guess thats why we all need to have insurance up to the hilt

Hope you get it all fixed up :)

Exactly its an honest mistake, I wouldn't have been angry. But not saying a word really got on my nerves as its not like you either wouldn't known you did it or wouldn't think someone would notice.

Never mind whats done is done

That's terrible, that they did not put their hands up and offer to pay the damage.... You should send them a letter, quoting damage and costs..... And if they don't pay you will take legal action.... Worth a punt
