Rear Discs and Predator Pads
Plucked up the courage to tackle the rear brakes today
The MOT tester had said there was a slight bind on one caliper and an imbalance on the handbrake although it passed the test overall. So with that in mind and knowing that the rear brakes hadnt been touched in a good few years i knew it was going to be a challenge.
I also bought some upgrade rear pads Black Diamond predator pads - were just over £30 from demon tweeks on ebay.
Here are some pics of the pads:

Turned out be a bit of mission and one 10mm bolt decided it was no longer 10mm but 9mm across flats
There seems to be a bit of an issue with the handbrake cables - with one being far longer than the other - i did get one side replaced and this may be why there is such a mismatch in lengths - the equaliser is at full diagonal...hoping something will free up but i might have to revisit this again and look at fitting new calipers and one new handbrake cable
still brakes are miles improved over what they were
no pics as it was dark when i finished and had to do one side by torchlight

Re: BB4 Brakes
Well brakes front and back are done.
Last piece of the puzzle was to reset the handbrake as it was way off
I fitted a new equaliser spring and got it all set up ok.The old spring was a bit mashed up. There is still some offset on the equaliser as one cable has been replaced and the other has obviously stretched over time but handbrake works on both sides so id call that a result
I wont be replacing any calipers or handbrake cables so thats a relief.

Re: BB4 Brakes
Thanks for testing the brakes out - its always good to get a second opinionMerlin wrote:Nice!

Brakes feel much better than stock so worth doing. Ive done discs and pads front and back (plus adjusted handbrake) on both my ludes for under a £100 in parts.lewie fraser wrote:Awesome mate.bet it's feeling sharp with the new brakes.
Your bb4 will be non abs yeah?

Good point but ive already done that.vtectom wrote:Good work!
If you loosen off the handbrake adjuster & wind in
both rear caliper pistons it can help balance out the
cables.

I took the centre console out for a couple of days and have readjusted the handbrake a few times as well- seems like the slack cable on one side has taken up a bit of tension - fitting the new equaliser spring also means things are sitting a bit better

just got to pluck up the courage to fit the 62mm 5th gen throttle body

car is running so well im not sure if making this change is a good idea

will probably do my usual "thinking about it" for a month or two then wondering why i didnt do it earlier

62MM 5th Gen Throttle Body Fitted
I was meant to be fitting a new radiator to another lude today but the guy cancelled at the last minute so i decided to press ahead and fit the 62mm 5th Gen Throttle Body and thermal gasket on my own BB4.
@Merlin had put me straight on the vaccum connections and i just used a tight fitting push rivet to blank off the old MAP sensor location.
Initially when i looked in the engine bay i couldnt quite work it out as i had removed the resonator and tidied up all the vaccum connections a while back but i had with me the the old resonator vaccum tank and hoses so quickly worked out i just had to put the t piece back in ahead of the plastic valve thingy and use a bit of hose to take a vaccum from one of the pipes ontop of the intake manifold.
All in all the job was straight forward and after fitting i didnt need to bleed the coolant or make any adjustments.
Id say this was a worthwhile mild modification - just the way i like it!
Pick up is more instantaneous and a has slightly deeper exhaust note.
Fast idle is spot on and so is the hot idle.
Ive not been out to do a high speed test run but im sure there will be some small gains in terms of performance.
Some pics
Plastic push rivet used to blank where the 5th gen MAP sensor was.

T piece hose joiner ahead of the valve thingy (4th gen 60mm tb still in place)

Type S intake now fits the throttle body better - was a very tight fit.

Completed installation pic

Fast Idle at 1500rpm and hot idle at 750rpm

I got the front discs for nothing as i think the guy who had them wasnt sure if they would fit the lude(he said they were very expensive high carbon discs)...VTTR dont seem to list this part anymore so no info on it except what i measured prior to fitting.
Brakes are excellent in daily driving conditions but will have to wait and see how they fare on track - ive got them set up with standard pagid pads but might go for a pad upgrade at some point.

I did clean the inside of the tb but left the outside for you to do lewielewie fraser wrote:Give it a better clean before it goes on![]()
I'd proberly repaint it silver again![]()
When you fit your atr manifold I ll buy this off you when it's modified to fit the h22a inlet

No sensor issues - i reckon this is a worthwhile modification.TheHondaTuner wrote:If you dont mess up the sensors it cant get worse with a slightly bigger TB. Why did you choose these discs? Any good experience yet?
