shock, cracked brake discs.

Post by honda-hardy » Sat Jul 12, 2014 11:49 pm

so i have bit the bullet, i have gone and bought the genuine honda ball joints. so today i stripped both suspension legs back off in preparation to fit new ball joints. but i had a nasty shock, both brake discs have cracks in.
i dont fancy shattered brake discs thanks.

i have never seen this before in all the years of being a mechanic and brake technician.

Not seen that on car discs ever. Seen it plenty on train discs though - very common to get surface cracking like that on them :geek: there are specs for monitoring them and acceptable/not acceptable limits before you have to change them (pita on a train) :ugeek:

Those discs have got very hot in a particular region, where the cracking is and the darker coloured band.
That is only surface cracking atm. It may very well not get any worse and you can monitor it to see, but I expect you won't want to risk it.

Are they vented discs, or solid/grooved?

I don't think there ebc discs they always had a gold colour from factory, pretty sure they didn't do a just groove disc it would of been dimpled or drilled also.
Looks like cheap discs that can't handle the aggressive braking that the green stuff can do

My thoughts on this too. I think it was jpoc race wars 2014 that did the damage.

how much? id need to pop over before the meet though to get them. but i do need to weigh up the cost of fuel and your stuff against the cost of new discs.
