im all in for this. i probably over quantified the oil usage, but it is a fair amount. i don't necessarily top it up every month either. i also take into account that the car does also have lots of mini oil leaks as well and my drive does now have a dark patch where i park.PerformanceAutoworks wrote: Nobody can promise 100% no oil burning without going down the route of oversizing with new pistons, rings and valve guides (not seals) but if Sam is using 1.5lts a month (per 800 miles) then it can certainly be dramatically improved with a full refresh.
Sam - It's your call, if you want it rebuilt we'll book it in (about to reply to your PM), if not, no worries

@rich: fair point
If its got more than a couple of seeps then its best to get it done over so you know you get another 80k out of it. Specially if you're keeping it for time.

Correct....but your piston ringlands will collapseRattyMcClelland wrote:Correct translation.PerformanceAutoworks wrote: Ratty - H22 rings are not a weak point in the slightest - remember we are generally talking about engines these days that have well over 100k on them that have been revved hard for many of those miles. Things wear, more so if not looked after correctly from day one
Ratty you sexy muffin. Just run 9psi on your supercharger. Your rings won't sting.

Sounds like I'm generally in the minority then, thinking the oil usage sam quoted was high and in having ludes that don't drink that much (my ukdm has over 130k on the clock and uses about 1litre per 6k miles, lisa's jdm has about 90k on the clock and uses no more than that.)
But hey...
But hey...

my engine was probably using the same rate of oil..
after rich fingered around in my engine, its how it should be
holds its oil much better now.
