Mine was the same. Optional, so very few people bothered

If it's a UKDM, the spoiler fitted rear brakelight was an option. My uncle bought one for his / mine back in the mid '90's just after he bought it, the standard spoiler has a bolted in blanking plate, this can be removed to insert the light if bought as an option. Apparently, they cost 250 quid on the otions list!!

Re: wurlycorner's '91 BA4 4WS SE Auto - a quick wash
Was at the barn yesterday morning, first time seeing the car dry since its quick wash. It has come up really well
TBH, I think there's a chance the bonnet might just get away with a sand, re-lacquer and mopping, rather than a full re-spray.
There's one large patch of lacquer peel, but now I've seen it in the clean/dry, the colour coat actually looks ok;

The rest of the bonnet is covered in scratches in the lacquer;

just doing a re-lacquer has the advantage of keeping a full match on the original paint/colour fade etc (and OEMness
) but not sure about compatibility of the paint systems between then and now
So probably would be best to just go for a proper re-spray.
The bootlid paint is a gonner and needing a full spray anyway - lacquer completely missing and colour coat blistered all over

You cant relacquer how you think you can.
It has to be taken back so the edges are feathered out which will break the paint. Colour blended over it and the lacquer the whole bonnet.
If you was to wet sand the peeling lacquer edges then polish. You will still see the lacquer edge and fresh lacquer won't hide it.
Wet sand and polish it then wet the bonnet and this us how it will look lacquered.

No, I probably didn't explain right... I was thinking sand and re-lacquering (and then mop) the whole bonnet, not just the patch where it's peeling.
You're obviously right about just doing a patch - that doesn't work. I've had patches re-lacquered on a car before (when the lacquer was peeling off) and you can get the new lacquer layer smooth/flush with the old ok, but you can still tell it's a patch because there's a sort of a 'colour difference' (is all I can think of how to describe it, but that isn't right) where the edge of the old lacquer was. That was on Lisa's Volvo and I had it done as a quick job just to stop the ever growing patch of lacquer peel spreading further. Seeing as the front of the car had been bent (not by me) and re-aligned (by me and a trusty club hammer) it wasn't going to get a proper re-spray!
So yeah, I meant I was wondering about not putting a new colour coat on the bonnet, that was all. Rubbing back to the colour coat and trying re-lacquering. Do you think that wouldn't work either then?

Re: wurlycorner's '91 BA4 4WS SE Auto - bits ordered
Tiny bit of progress, went to Honda this morning and ordered the exhaust gaskets. Good job I did, because delivery isn't until 15th August!
And I want it on the road so it can go to JAE
Whilst I was in, I enquired about the price of some other bits that would be 'nice to have';
Boot carpet? £250
Front bumper? £244 (unpainted and bare without trim)
Rear bumper? £210 (as above)
Sunroof? (the rubber trim on mine has the usual wear to the front corners and isn't available separately) £600
Just the exhaust gaskets it is, then!
