mot regs

Sun visors

Sunvisors fitted to the driver's side, which cannot be stowed in the 'offscreen' position and which drop down obstructing the view through the swept area of the windscreen are a reason for rejection. A similar defect on the passenger side sunvisor is not a reason for rejection.

at least half the plate is legal then.

After my the badger crash I haven't had a number plate on the front of my car as the badger broke the mount. I have a new plate, sat on the rear seat. Cops walking past yesterday stopped and were talking to me about the car, I explained the badger incident and that I didn't want to drill or stick anything to my bumper, he said until I can get a new mount for the plate I can put it in the front window and I won't get a ticket.. and that is straight from the horses mouth, as it were.

I guess it depends how gestapo like the traffic plod are round your way.
My experience with living in Essex, Hampshire and South Yorks is that they're very very different... (Essex win the Nazi prize, Hampshire were always sensible and reasonable btw).

I have to say that Nathan's plates are still 100% illegal, however you read the regs. Of course, any decent plod will let you off with having the plate inside the car if it's just fallen off or been knocked off, but that is temporary - you can't drive around for years like that...

Also, it's what the cops call a "puller"; they may pull you over to ask you why your plate is like that – which opens you up to having the rest of your car gone over with a fine toothed comb, and also you being breathalysed if you've been near a pub.

If it was me personally, I'd do an Alfa 156-style side mounted bumper jobbie, but the plate has to be vertical, and (which is why the windscreen is out as a permanent fixture), viewable in all normal light conditions; at certain angles the windscreen will reflect back obscuring the plate.

New Timing Belt

Post by NafemanNathan » Mon Jun 17, 2013 10:44 pm

Popped up to PAW today to treat the lude to a new timing belt, tensioner, water pump and auxiliary belts... Although I was totally late  Treated myself to a wonderful walk around the village and along the picturesque stream too! Saw three lots of swans don't you know?! :D

Anyway, all this time not knowing when the last time belt change was, I've been extremely conscious not to take her over 4k rpm, but today that all changed :D And boy does she go! ;-) I think it'd be scary if it did actually have VTEC :scaredtoss:

I also mentioned a slight bit of play in the steering wheel to Rich whilst I was there. Turns out the upper and lower ball joints on the front nearside have a bit of play in them and also the outer CV boot has a split in it, so I'll need to sort those sometime soon.

EDIT: Also forgot to say I had Rich check and adjust the valve clearances. Some were loose, some were tight. Now, they're perfect :D

Not doing too bad for what was a 100 quid car
