Had a bit of a play earlier with the rear "PRELUDE". A previous owner had painted the what-was-silver emblem gold, but very poorly and then kindly scratched all around the letters (I assume to remove excess paint) ...

So I started but T-cutting it back. It didn't take much effort to get rid of the gold, but as I expected, part of the silver was disappearing as well...

Image

It didn't take much effort to get to this stage, but the last dredds were quite stubborn...

Image

Still, got there in the end...

Image

And I quite like it...

Image

Though I still have to sort out the scratches...

Image

I had to see what it would look like black as well though, so I got my old trick marker out...

Image

But this made the scratch marks around all the letters even more obvious...

Image

So for now I've just gone around it with a red felt-tip  ...

Image

It pretty much worked, so I'll get a red perminant marker to last a bit longer.

And this is as is with black lettering...

I think I prefer the invisible look though, so I'll probably T-cut it off again tomorrow ;-)

Looks good mate. How about flatting it off completely? Do you reckon that's doable?

I was gonna suggest black when I got as far as the invisible look.

BTW, is the rear plate meant to be at that extreme angle?

In the states they shave the lettering completely off. Then polish the whole off the panel to make it shiny and even. If you want the text see if you can get 5th gen rear bumper chrome letters and stick then on. If you can't get the original from Honda then get them from Halfords like the ones on my back bumper as Gordon pointed out. Or get them from ebay.

Or perhaps Ammo could knock something up? I think the 5G chrome letters may be slightly different, not sure though.

I thought about shaving it off, but I do like the fact that it does still say Prelude, just from afar it's invisible. Just as long as I can tidy it up. I did see a spare panel for sale a while ago, before I even had the 3rd gen, so I may keep my eye out. I've got means to paint it again anyway if I choose at least.

Oh and yes Iain. I like it angluar  Got the idea from Benny's 2nd gen. Just need to modify the angle of the actual mount when I've got enough time.

New Exhaust Fitted

Post by NafemanNathan » Thu May 09, 2013 9:29 pm

Well the twin-loop turned out to be a no go. I wasn't holding my breathe with it fitting when I actually saw the size of it in person. There's just not enough head room under there compared to a 4th gen. The standard 3rd gen backbox is a fairly flat oval compared to the 4th gen's massive fore-headed beast. Also the anti-roll bar and lower control arm meant the whole box would have had to be dropped as the inlet is at the top and almost up against them, but then the tail pipe would have been a good 6 to 8" inches lower than the bumper as it's at the bottom. Then the underside of the backbox itself would have only been an inch or two above the ground as well. And You can't simply turn it over to overcome that as the "loop" is then prone to being hit.

So I had to make a desicion on the spot with what options they had. The guy lifted down a load of jap-cans, but they were all too large for my liking, so I went custom with a 4.5" backbox with a 3" outward rolled tailpipe... at a jaunty angle. I like a good jaunty angle :D

She definitely feels much more responsive for it too. After all the temporary one I had on there was a smaller bore than the rest of the system  It's now 2" straight through :)
