shopping trolley or wee kids on a push bike possibly - but front wing is the best panel to get any damage on as you can take it off and respray or replace it for not too many pennies. still sucks

decat pipe payed for new alternator belt fitted what a difference it makes the old one squeeled when u started car for some reason it looked new but still made a horrible noise so replaced it with the same belt which is a Gates belt costing £17.95 + vat from my local motor factors also new power steering belt ordered, new bumper being painted and hopefully some new wheels soon

Well lastnyt i went to a cruise 85 miles from where i live and when i was leaving to come home i started hearing a loud ticking noise from under the bonnet so i pulled into a laybye opened the bonnet only to realise that my brand new gates powersteering pump belt haf decided shred itself on the left hand side nothing is loose no wobbly pulleys and everything is like it should be, i just cut the bits that where flapping about off and carried on, any ideas why this would of happened to a brand new belt im absolutely raging as this could of snapped completely and done more damage

Strange one...

Belt tension wrong or something caught between the pulley and the belt? Or just very unlucky that there was a manufacturing fault on that belt.

I would check that your crank pulley is running straight as well - with no wobbles - you can check the pulley bolt is tight if you jack up the passenger side and remove the front wheel.
Ive never driven a lude thats had the power steering removed - would be interesting to say the least :)

i checked lastnyt when it happened there are no wobbly pulleys or anything its strange to say the least the belt never snapped vanzep it was the outer edge that had shredded on the pump side i really dnt know why because it was a brand new belt last week ill check the crank pulley tho just to be safe its still running fine and power steering is ok its just the belt thats confusing me lol

hopefully a fault with the belt ive looked really closely at all the pulleys with the engine running and there is no wobbles atall its strange i dnt suppose u can over tighten the belt is there coz it is pretty tight
